Historical Facts
- 1850 – Ashlar House constructed
- 1910 – dining room and front upstairs bedrooms added
- 1916 – Ashlar House is the site where local piano expert, Lee Tocher's grandmother was married (see photograph in Gallery)
- 1970 – master bedroom and pool added by the Weber family
- 2003 – Ashlar House fully renovated (except for kitchen) by Sutherns family
- 2005 – Kitchen renovation plus board-and-batten side addition with office, meeting and recreation rooms added by Sutherns family
- 2009 – Detached garage redone
- Owned by only few families, Ashlar House’s previous owners have had strong roots in the community since at least the turn of the century
- Previously owned by great-grandmother of Hillsburgh piano expert, Lee Tocher
- Previous owner, Bill Weber, was a former Reeve of Erin Township. He and his family lived in the house for more than 30 years.
Unique Features
- Authentic antique furnishings, like the kitchen’s handmade harvest table, grace every room of Ashlar House
- Piano & floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, both c. 1910. The fireplace still has an original pot hanger left from when it would have been used for cooking over a century ago.
- Protected natural wetlands with rare plant species and fish spawning areas
- Original art by local artists featured throughout
- Near skiing and golfing resorts, the Bruce Trail and other hiking routes, farm markets, and artist studios
